Moores Creek Community Meeting June 20th, 2018
You are cordially invited to improve our communities. On Wednesday June 20th, 2018, Auburn University and the Chambers County Extension Office will host a Stakeholder meeting for Lanett and Valley community members. We recently received funding to improve the local watershed in Lanett and Valley. Proposed projects on this $504,918 funding opportunity include retrofitting the EMA storm water basin in Lanett, stabilizing where Veteran’s Memorial Parkway (Highway 50) crosses the Upper Moores Creek in Lanett, and stabilizing the Moores Creek adjacent to Valley City Hall. Educational opportunities will include providing environmental science education to local schools through partnerships with 4-H, events for local designers and engineers, technology transfers (Continuing Education Units available through AU), construction demonstrations, post-construction demonstration tours, and NEMO (Nonpoint Source Education for Municipal Officials).
These community-led watershed improvement efforts can be successful through your input. Please join us June 20th, 2018 at the Chambers County EMA/911 office (3609 Veterans Memorial Parkway, Lanett, AL 36863) from 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. Eastern (1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. Central). AU and Chambers Extension are partnering with numerous entities including the Alabama Department of Environmental Management through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region IV, local municipal officials, and Alabama Water Watch.
To enable us to plan adequate space and for more information, please contact Alex James, Moores Creek Coordinator – Auburn University, at (334) 844-3809 or firstname.lastname@example.org .
