Why Should you have an Estate Plan?

Creating an estate plan, will make it less difficult, time-consuming, and less expensive for heirs to settle an estate. Planning ahead relieves family members of some of the burdens during this period of grief. Alabama  Extension  provides the citizens  of Alabama with research based estate planning education.  The Estate Planning Seminar held in Chilton County covered several topics.

Seminar presenter  Dr. Robert Tufts, Ph.D., J.D., LLM (tax) Attorney and Retired Associate Professor of Auburn University, provided detailed information on documents you should include in your estate planning. Dr. Tufts also answers questions regarding the difference between a will and a living trust, springing power of attorney, how to ensure the family farm remains in the family.  Clint Neimeyer of the Alabama Securities Commission, covered investment fraud and scams.  Sharlean Briggs, Family Resource Management Workforce Development Regional Extension Agent also presented provided information on what we should do with our records and important documents. Lunch and refreshments were provided by the Alabama Securities Commission and Gay West, Chilton County Extension Coordinator. www.aces.edu/Chilton
