About Conecuh County

More Announcements...

Conecuh County was created by an act of the Alabama Territorial General Assembly on Feb. 13, 1818. The name is derived from a Muskogee Indian word meaning “land of cane.” The county seat of Evergreen is the county’s largest city. Castleberry and Repton are the county’s other incorporated areas. The county is largely rural and has a population of 13,976. The county has vast tracts of unspoiled forestlands that are home to many species of wildlife. It is a sportsman’s wonderland.

Conecuh County’s principal crops are cotton, corn, peanuts and cattle. Tourist attractions include the Strawberry Festival, Sausage Festival, Evergreen Municipal Park, Evergreen Public Library and many churches.

The Extension office employs six people full time and six people part time.
