Urban Environmental Science Education Program (UESEP)


The Urban Environmental Science Education Program (UESEP) provides education that introduces environmental concepts and issues to youth and adult. The goal is to deliver research-based environmental education and outreach programs that stimulate societal change and lead to more environmentally conscious lives for Alabama citizens.

Forestry Field Day


Forestry Field Day is an annual event held at the Mabson Community Forest in Dale County. The annual event is attended by fifth grade students from Dale County Schools and Ozark City Schools.

Fifth graders attend sessions on prescribed burning and tree planting, a wildlife presentation, learning about the variety of wood products that are produced from trees and a session on animal scats and tracks. A poster contest is also part of the Forestry Field Day event.

The annual Forestry Field Day event is sponsored by Alabama Cooperative Extension System, Dale County Treasure Forest Planning Committee, City of Ozark, Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and Long FFA. Forestry Field Day brings together multiple agencies to provide a fun and educational day.

Alabama Master Naturalist Program

The Alabama Master Naturalist program is a new statewide program whose goal is to help promote awareness, understanding, and respect of Alabama’s natural world among Alabama’s citizens and visitors. In addition, the AMN program will also develop a statewide corps of well-informed volunteers providing education, outreach, and service dedicated to the beneficial management of natural resources and natural areas within their communities.
