Do you want to learn how to prepare delicious meals and snacks to control or prevent diabetes, high blood pressure, and other diseases? The Alabama Cooperative Extension System along with co-sponsored AGAPE Ministry is offering a four class series that focuses on Diabetes Cooking. You will learn how to: 1) choose healthier food, 2) prepare recipes lower in fat, cholesterol, sugar, and sodium, 3) portion control, 4) label reading, 5) use various sweeteners, 6) choose carbohydrates, and 7) choose the right fats. The focus is on citizens 40 years of age and older. The classes will be taught by Christina LaVert, Regional Extension Agent and Registered Dietitian. Would you like to become a Master Gardener? Do you have a love for gardening or a desire to learn how? The Dallas County Extension office is now accepting applications for its 2018 Fall Master Gardener’s classes. These classes will be held weekly on Thursday’s beginning September 6-November 15 (10 weekly sessions) 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Central Alabama Farmers Co-op, Hwy 80 W in Selma, Alabama.
The cost is $150.00 per person which covers cost of background check and all materials. All participants much complete and pass a background screening before being admitted to the class. The baby chicks have arrived and the 2018 4-H Chick Chain project is underway. The 4-H Chick Chain is a program designed to help youth learn how to raise pullets (female baby chicks) into mature production hens. This program not only teaches youth responsibility, but also about ethical treatment of animals, biosecurity, record keeping and communication skills.
