The 4-H Chick Chain project is one that teaches responsibility, money management skills and animal husbandry. Youth ages 9-18, register by paying a $50 fee and receive 18 one day old chicks to raise over the summer months. In order to complete the project, youth will bring their three best pullets of one breed to the county show in the fall. Those three will then be auctioned off in a public auction to pay for the remainder of the flock. Youth receive prize money and proceeds from the auction and have the reminder of their flock at home to use for egg production. Registration forms can be requested from the Extension Office at 256.547.7936. Registration is open through the first week of March.
