Nominations are now open for beef heifers that local cattle producers would like to place into the 2018 Sand Mountain Elite Heifer Development Program. Nominations are being taken through November 20th. Heifers will be received in January and will be developed on cool-season annuals and commodity supplements until the end of June/First of July. The heifers get 1 shot at Artificial Insemination in April and clean-up with a calving ease bull.
Please let anyone know that you think would benefit from the program. If you have any questions about the program, feel free to contact Landon Marks at 256.706.0032 or Kent Stanford at 256.557.1206.

The Etowah County 4-H program is currently taking registrations for this year’s 4-H Project Pig Squeal. If you are 9-18 years old and reside in Etowah County, you can be a part. Cost is $120 per person and pays for two weaned feeder pigs that will be picked up in early January. The pigs will be grown out for close to 120 days. At the end of the project, you can select one to bring back to the county show and auction. The other pig is yours. For more information and for a registration form, please contact the Etowah County office at 256.547.7936 or talk to any of the 4-H staff.
