Auxin Herbicide Best Management Practices Training

picture of auxin herbicide damage

In October of 2017, the EPA approved revised labels for Xtendimax, FeXapan and Engenia. All these products are now restricted use pesticides, meaning an applicators permit must be held in order to purchase and apply these products. The labels now also require applicators to attend an ANNUAL training. In addition to becoming restricted use, these revised labels have more restrictions outlining how the products should be applied. The language regarding buffers and applications near sensitive crops has also been rewritten.
This training is intended to assist applicators with reducing incidents of herbicide drift to susceptible crops, technical application methods, tank cleanout, and information about the new chemistries. The certified applicator or person responsible for the application of these products on cotton and soybeans in crop must receive this training.
If you received training last year you still have to train this year. Due to the new requirements by EPA, previous trainings are only valid for 1 year. Furthermore, purchasers of these products must have a commercial or private applicators permit in conjunction with training.
Commercial applicators will receive pesticide recertification credit upon completion. Certified crop advisors will also receive points. Lunch or dinner may be provided at each location. Note if you attended a training last year you are now required by law to attend a yearly training.

To register, go to www.aces.edu/go/707. Cost is $15.  You may also call the Cherokee County Extension office to register:  256.927.3250 and you may pay at the door.
