Franklin County 4-H offers two shooting sports clubs: archery and shotgun. Both clubs meet at Cedar Hill Trap Range (4021 Highway 84, Russelleville) on the 2nd Saturday of the month from 9:00 am – noon (see below for full schedule).
Archery: Learn and practice archery safety and skills using a compound or recurve bow. Bring your own bow, at least 6 arrows, and an arm guard; wear closed-toe shoes. A finger glove is required for archers that do not shoot with a release. New to the sport or don’t have your own equipment? 4-H has some Genesis bows, arrows, finger guards, and arm guards that you can use; please call ahead.
Shotgun: Learn firearm safety & responsibility with the shotgun sports of skeet & trap. Participants need to bring a .12 or .20 gauge shotgun, target load ammo (at least 2 boxes of 25), safety glasses or sunglasses and hearing protection. The cost is $5 per round and is paid directly to the shooting club. Please bring cash and correct change!
Alabama 4-H S.A.F.E.: Shooting Awareness, Fun, and Education: Shooting sports clubs are designed to help youth learn and practice safe firearm skills while developing their marksmanship for competitive shooting sports. Safety is always a primary consideration at 4-H S.A.F.E. activities. S.A.F.E. programs are led by 4-H trained and certified Extension staff and volunteers, who are trained to maintain the highest standards of safety at all times for all participants. Each discipline has a state competition for youth to showcase his or her life skills and project mastery — but education and positive youth development are our coaches’ goals at all times.
