Geneva County was established in 1868 by the State Legislature and formed from parts Dale, Henry and Coffee counties. It is located in the southeastern part of the state and bordered on the south by Florida. Geneva County contains 578 square miles and eight incorporated communities–four cities (Geneva, Hartford, Samson and Slocomb) and four towns (Malvern, Coffee Springs, Black and Eunola). The county seat is Geneva. The City of Geneva is a sister city with Geneva, Switzerland. A cultural trade is planned annually. The county is 80.2 percent rural and 19.8 percent urban. Its population is 86 percent white, 13 percent black and 1 percent Hispanic.

There are 12 educational outlets in the county including four elementary schools, four middle schools and four high schools. Most of the adult residents are high school graduates.

Poultry, peanuts, timber, cattle, cotton, hogs, corn, soybeans and hay, are the major agricultural crops. Pecans, vegetables, fish, fish bait and dairy cattle, turfgrass, and ornamental trees are also grown. Geneva County is the largest producer of “Red Wigglers” fish bait in the Southeast. Geneva County also has the largest sprigger of bermudagrass in the Southeast U.S. Slocomb tomatoes are considered the best tasting tomato crop in the world. Major industries include Sysco, Inc., Reliable Manufacturing, Outdoor Aluminum,  River Forks Imports, Second Chance and Samson Pipe Company. Tourist attractions include hunting and fishing, antiquing, the Slocomb Tomato Festival, and the River Junction and Fowler Park River Festival.

The Geneva County Extension Office has six full-time employees. Popular Extension program areas include livestock and forages, Nutrition Education Program (NEP), Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP), 4-H, agronomy and commercial vegetable marketing.
