2016 Economic Inclusion and Asset Building Conference

You’re invited to the
2016 Economic Inclusion and Asset Building Conference
Sponsored by the Alabama Asset Building Coalition and the FDIC

Macon County Annex – Tuskegee, AL

Conference Purpose

A significant number of people in Alabama have little or no current relationship with a financial institution. Economic barriers, such as lack of liquidity to carry account balances and bank fees; structural barriers; and experiential barriers are the most common reasons why people are unbanked and underbanked.

The focus of this year’s conference includes:
• Enhancing the economic well-being of low- and moderate-income individuals and families, including the unbanked and underserved, by improving access to the banking system.
• Working with financial institutions, housing agencies and other community partners on ways to bring low-moderate communities into a healthier financial mainstream through innovative financial products, education, programs and services.

Vegetable Production Meeting / Tour

We had a good productive meeting at the Hornsby farm in Macon County Friday September 18th.  Regional Extension Agent Dr. William East discussed production practices the Hornsby Farm uses for managing vegetable crops and Extension Vegetable Entomologist, Dr. Ayanava Majumdar, discussed insect pests.  The production meeting was hosted by the Alabama Cooperative Extension System and the Tuskegee Extension System.  The goal is for Extension working together, to host similar meetings in the future in Macon County.
