TIME TO ENROLL IN 4-H CLUBS — OR START YOUR OWN!  4-H Clubs are local, and in every Alabama County!  Membership is FREE.  Enrollment is year-round and open to all 4th-12th grade youth. “4-H” opportunities exist in several Delivery Modes:  In-school Clubs, After School Clubs, Community & Special Interest Clubs, Camping Programs (day or overnight), Technology-based Clubs (online or virtual club), or Individual (independent) membership. MPS PARTNERS WITH MONTGOMERY 4-H SHOOTING SPORTS:  Thank you Montgomery Public Schools for your partnership with Alabama 4-H!  One of the many ways we worked together was the recent 4-H ARCHERY INVITATIONAL at the MPS Arboretum. 4-H PEANUT ESSAY CONTEST

4-H PEANUT ESSAY CONTEST!  Deadline: NOVEMBER 3, 2017. Any one who is an enrolled member of 4-H can participate; go to www. Alabama4H.com to join.

Rules: 

Must write essay on the topic “Peanuts: From the Ground Up!”  Essays must be typed. Divisions are Junior (Ages 9-14, 500-750 words), and Senior (Ages 14-19, 750-1000 words). Judging will be based on the basis of accuracy, creativity, and conciseness, as well as logical development of the subject.

County Awards: Placing ribbon and Certificate of Participation. 

State Awards: 1st place: $50.00 and plaque; 2nd place: $35.00 and plaque; 3rd place: $25.00 and a plaque.

Deadline is November 3, 2017 by 4 PM CST. Entries must be received at the Montgomery Co ACES 4-H Office, 5340 Atlanta Hwy, Montgomery AL 36109.  Phone:  334-270-4133.  Submissions will not be accepted after 4:30 p.m. on November 3, 2017.

4-H SPACE CAMP – ROCKET DAY

4-H SPACE & ROCKET DAY, October 7 2017. 4-H Day at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, October 7 2017!

Where: U.S. Space & Rocket Center, Huntsville, AL

Cost: $18 per person (Add an IMAX movie for $7).  Price for walk-in guests on the day of the event will be general admission and will not include a boxed lunch.

What’s Included: Entrance to the museum, rocket park, & shuttle park. Featured exhibit is Above & Beyond “ISS: Science on Orbit”.   Exhibitions by Alabama 4-H (subject to change):  Drone Demonstrations & Flight Opportunities, Virtual Reality “Expeditions” to Space Destinations, Coding Experience, 4-H Robotics Club Demonstration.

FARM-CITY FESTIVAL

Farm-City Festival  –   Monday October 16, 3:30-8:00 pm  at Flying B Ranch, Pike Road AL.  All ages! Farm animals, pony rides, crafts, free food, entertainment and a celebration of Alabama’s farmer! Participation is FREE with a can of food.  Homeschoolers welcome!  Please call the Montgomery County 4-H Office 334-270-4133 to RSVP by Fri. October 13.

4-H RIVER REGION RIFLES CLUB

4-H RIVER REGION RIFLES CLUB MEETS every Monday at Montgomery ACES Office, 5:30 PM. Age 9-19.  Membership is free. Rifle, Archery, Pistol, Muzzleloading, Shotgun disciplines taught; opportunities for achievement and competition abound!  Contact Ed Boyett, 334-281-8370 for questions.

AG DISCOVERY DAY

FREE FAMILY FUN!  On Saturday Sept. 23, why not head to the Auburn University EV Smith Research Station in Shorter AL for a free exciting day of family fun?  Hosted by the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station and Auburn University’s College of Agriculture, Ag Discovery Adventure will offer adults and children entertaining and enlightening hands-on activities and presentations that will showcase agricultural technology and illustrate the key role agriculture plays in every aspect of our lives. They will explore the multi-faceted world of agriculture, from crop and animal production to home gardening to buzzwords like sustainability and bioenergy.  Renowned Auburn Chef, Chris Wilton, will demonstrate how to prepare and cook four Alabama grown products. Alabama producers will be on hand to discuss how they raise their products in Alabama.
