Nelson D. Wynn, Regional Extension Agent in the photo is doing a rain barrel workshop for Pickens County residents. Rain barrels are used to collect and store rainwater. Rainwater stored in the barrels can be used for domestic purposes and irrigation. The water is collected from rooftops, greenhouses, pool covers and other relatively clean surfaces. The harvest rainwater is not potable and requires extensive treatment for to be used as tap water. The rain barrel in the photo is a food grade olive barrel.
