Russell County 4-H Public Speaking Contest

The Russell County 4-H Public Speaking Contest sponsored by the Tallapoosa River Electric Cooperative is going to be held at the Central Activities Center in Phenix City on April 24th!  Registration is open now until April 19th.  You can call the office to register (334) 298-6845.  There will be 3 separate events; Have I Got A Story, Speak Up Alabama Persuasive Speech,  and Speak Up Alabama Informative Speech.  You don’t have to be a current 4-H Member to Participate, we can get you signed up when you register!!!  Check in will start at 5:00 pm est and the contest will begin at 5:30 pm est.  Your family is welcome to come watch!

Registration for our brand new kayaking and fishing club is now open!!!  Space is limited to the first 15 4-H Members 14-18 years old that register and pay the fee.  Check out the Flyer and call the office for more info and to register.  Doesn’t matter if you have never kayaked or fished before or are experts; we will have fun learning new skills, talk about environmental education & outdoor education, paddle & fish new streams every month, and have a blast hanging out!

Alabama 4-H is looking for the best of the best for the State 4-H Ambassador program. If you are a Senior II 4-H member, who wants to be more involved in state-wide leadership, consider applying to become a 4-H Ambassador.  If you are interested, contact the County Extension Office.

The application process will go live in 4HOnline Monday, May 1st. Registration will close on mid-night Wednesday, May 31st. Information concerning the application process can be found on the Alabama 4-H website by clicking on resources then leadership and under events.

It is 4-H Senior Achievement time!!

the 2017 Senior Achievement application is now open in 4HOnline. The application process will close on Monday, May 8th.  Information concerning the application process can be found on the Alabama 4-H website by clicking on resources then achievement and also under events.

 

4-H Senior Achievement identifies outstanding Alabama 4-H members who have excelled in one of the nine Achievement Areas of Alabama 4-H. These areas include:

  • Animal Project—Production, Large Animal (beef, dairy, swine)
  • Animal Project—Production, Small Animal (sheep, goats, poultry, meat rabbits)
  • Animal Project—Companion Animal (dog, rabbit, cat)
  • Equine Science
  • Communications (Public Speaking, Judging Teams, Photography)
  • Foods and Nutrition/Family and Consumer Science
  • Leadership/Citizenship
  • Natural Resources (Environmental Science, S.A.F.E., Wildlife, Forestry, Plants and Soils)
  • At Large Achievement.

Senior Level I participants must be age 14 or 15 on January 1, 2017. Winners will receive a trip to the Southern Region Youth Leadership Conference and a trophy.

Senior Level II participants must be age 16 to 18 on January 1, 2017. Winners will receive a trip to National 4-H Congress and a trophy .

4-H Cookies With Santa!

Do you hate waiting in the long lines to see Santa just to get 30 seconds to tell him what you want and pay $25 or more for a photo?

Well Russell County 4-H has a great news!  Come to our office December 13th from 5 to 7 pm est and get to visit, eat cookies, make ornaments, and have your photo taken with Santa himself!!!  For a $5 donation to Russell County 4-H, you get to spend lots of time with Santa and get as many photos as your parents want to take.  We hope you will join us for this magical night!  Call the office (334) 298-6845 for more information.

September 2016 County Contest is Open!

September 2016 county contest is the Photography Contest.  The World I See and The World I Imagine are 2 separate contests and rules can be found by clicking on each contest.  Entries will be due at the October Club Meetings or to the County Extension Office by October 31st at noon.  No late entries will be excepted.  If your not a current member of 4-H…that’s OK!  You can sign up online before you turn your entry in to the office!

A study by AARP stated that 1 in 5 Americans reported being a victim of a major consumer fraud or swindle at some point.  Join Alabama Extension Regional Agent, Cynthia T. White, Family Resource Management & Workforce Development, for this 2-hour workshop on protecting your resources and identity throughout this holiday season.  The workshop will be held October 25, 2016 at the Russell County Extension Office, 508 14th Street, Phenix City, AL  36867, from 10am to Noon, EST.  Pre-registration is preferred.  There is no charge for this program.  Refreshments will be provided by the Lee-Russell Council of Governments.  For more information or to register please call 334-298-6845.
