Read Across America Day! Celebrating Dr. Seuss’s Birthday!

Sumter County Cooperative Extension partnered with the University of Alabama Center for Economic Development (UACED) to celebrate Read Across America Day 2017 by placing reading kits that includes Dr. Seuss classic books, stickers, book markers, and pencils in school libraries. Read Across America Day is an annual celebration that takes place on March 2nd, Dr. Seuss’s birthday. This event is part of UACED’s annual Books for the Alabama Black Belt Campaign. Twenty-one schools in seven counties of the Black Belt region were recipients of this project. These schools included Livingston and Kinterbish Junior High schools in Sumter County.
