- Develop an awareness for business management
- Develop record keeping skills (income and expenses)
- Realize the pride of accomplishment
Both youth and a parent must attend a mandatory training on May 5th @ 6:00 P.M. at the Tuscaloosa County Extension Office.
During the month of May you will receive 18 chicks that are 1-2 days old and are all pullets (females). You will receive 6 individual chicks from each of the 3 breeds you choose. They will all come from a reputable hatchery and will be properly vaccinated. You will care for these pullets for approximately 20 weeks. After this time, you will bring the 3 best pullets to the West Alabama 4-H Chick-Chain Show and Auction on October 8, 2016 at the Marengo Co. Extension Office.
If you bring your 3 pullets to the show and auction, you will receive the auction profits from your birds, prize money for top winners and ribbons. If you have successfully raised all 18 pullets, you will have 15 left. These pullets belong to you.
Registration forms and check must be received at your local Extension Office by Friday, February 26, 2016.
