2016 Walker County Wildlife Team participates at national contest in Davis, West Virginia

 

Walker County 4-H WHEP Team

Our 2016 Walker County senior 4-H Wildlife Judging team placed first in their state competition June 28th and 29th in Auburn.  Team members Cole Burgett won first place overall high scoring individual, Cole Sanders placed third high scoring individual, and Laura Wyers placed fifth high score individual.

Team members learned to identify more than 100 species of Alabama Wildlife as well as how to interpret aerial photos, write wildlife management plans for urban species, evaluate on-site locations and make management practices to improve habitat for selected species, as well as to identify wildlife foods and the animals that depend on those foods.

The Walker County team participated in the National Wildlife Education Program competition in Davis, West Virginia July 24-27, 2016.  They represented Walker County and Alabama 4-H extremely well and finished eighth in their national contest.
