Reality Check

Haleyville High School students learned hard lessons on balancing needs versus wants during the second back-to-back Reality Check program sponsored as a joint effort of the Winston County Extension System, Alabama Power and Haleyville High School.

Volunteers from throughout the business community as well as retired teachers and other residents set up booths or stations in two rooms near the high school library. Haleyville Mayor Ken Sunseri, who also served as a volunteer to advise students, noted, “This is an excellent opportunity for students to realize the actual cost involved when they’re on their own, teaching them how to budget their money, how to expect and experience unforeseen expenses.” Dr. Alan Miller, Superintendent of Education, pointed out “We certainly want to thank all of the community volunteers who have donated their time.” Miller added, “It’s a wonderful program”.
